Chicken & Biscuit take-out dinner

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 335 Locust St., downtown Johnstown, take-out dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 9, at its parish hall. Take out only. Meals must be ordered in advance. Each meal includes chicken and biscuit, mashed potatoes, strawberry-spinach salad, and cake. Proceeds from the take-out dinner benefit ECW and St. Mark’s Ministries. W.A.C.K meal

A free community dinner, served at the Windber Area Community Kitchen (W.A.C.K.), will be held from 4-6 p.m. April 9, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1800 Stockholm Ave., Windber. The menu will be spaghetti with meat sauce, vegetables, fruit, bread and dessert. The meal will be served and sponsored by Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Easter Egg Hunt

The 19th annual Easter Egg Hunt is at 10 a.m. April 9, at Miners Park, downtown Windber. Watch for the Easter Bunny driving through town. Bring your own bag.

Common Threads Fiber Arts Celebration

Laurel Arts and the Somerset Historical Center are partnering to present the fourth annual Common Threads Fiber Arts Symposium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 9, inside the unique museum space at the Somerset Historical Center. Common Threads is a celebration of all things Fiber Art including basketry, weaving, tapestry, coiling, knitting, crochet, embroidery, lacemaking, rug braiding, rug hooking, macramé, textile arts, silk painting, sewing, quilting, spinning, felting, papermaking, bookbinding, and many creative combinations of those skills.

Throughout the day, roughly 15 fiber artists and two guest speakers will be set up throughout the museum, demonstrating specific techniques, providing hands-on activities to participants, and the artists will be educating visitors when selling or talking about their hand-made products.

Rabies clinics sponsored by the Humane Society of Somerset and the Somerset County Veterinarian Association will be held at various locations around the county. April 11, 6-7 p.m. Listie fire hall; April 12, 6-7 p.m. Shanksville fire hall; April 16, 11 a.m. to noon, Central City fire hall; April 20, 6-7 p.m. Addison fire hall; April 21, 6-7 p.m.

Berlin Vo-Ag Department; April 23, 1-3 p.m., Somerset — Gary's Complex; April 26, 6-7 p.m. Meyersdale Vo-Ag Department. Bring a previous vaccination certificate if possible. All dogs must be on a leash. All cats must be in a carrier.

'Tastes of the Town'

Ligonier Valley Historical Society’s 29th annual “Tastes of the Town,” 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 21, at The Barn at Ligonier Valley, 1 Springer Road, to raise funds in support of new and ongoing educational initiatives, archeological studies and preservation efforts at Compass Inn Museum. Participants will enjoy tasting mouth-watering appetizers, entrées, desserts and pastries from the area's finest restaurants, bakeries and delis.

75th annual Pennsylvania Maple Festival

Marking 75 years of maple sweetness, the Pennsylvania Maple Festival is April 23-24, and April 27-May 1 in Meyersdale. Maple demonstrations, entertainment, craft and food vendors, Sit & Sip Garden, fair exhibits, activities in Festival Park on Meyers Avenue, pancakes and sausage meals, auto shows, parade, quilt show, "Legend of the Magic Water" dinner theater, Maple Race 8K/5K Run/Walk, horse pull, antique tractor and farm machinery show, queen's ball. Plant a Tree

Pancake and Sausage Dinners

Salisbury Lions Club 70th annual Pancake and Sausage Dinners will be April 23-24, April 30 and May 1. Eat in or take out from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Salisbury Municipal Building, 171 Smith Ave., Salisbury. Serving pancakes, old fashion buckwheat cakes, smoked and fresh sausage, and Somerset County pure maple syrup.

Tiny Steps of Hope Basket Bash

More than 100 baskets from 1-4 p.m. May 1, at the Richland Fire Hall. Doors open at noon. Drawings begin at 2 p.m. Ticket includes chicken thigh dinner with parsley potatoes, corn and more, basket tickets and door prize ticket. Limited seating available. Tickets on sale now. Craft class

The last unique craft class before summer at the Windber Community Building & Recreation Park, 2-4 p.m. May 7. In this workshop guided by Marian Ross, participants will learn to manipulate glass fragments to assemble sunflower in resin. Ross is an artist and owner of the Follow Your Art studio in Ebensburg. Chocolate Stroll

The Salvation Army Somerset Service Center and Somerset Inc. featuring a delicious day in the neighborhood Chocolate Stroll from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7. Visit local participating businesses in gathering chocolate goodies and potentially winning some fantastic prizes. At the end of the Chocolate Stroll, pick from a "garden" of 200 chocolate lollipops and find out if you're a winner. Proceeds support The Salvation Army Somerset Service Center. 2022 Relay For Life of Somerset Survivor registration

Sign up for the survivor activities to be held at the Relay For Life of Somerset on June 25 at Somerset Athletic Field. Celebrate with the survivor and caregiver lap, sponsored by Harold Shepley & Associates; and a dinner reception for each survivor and a caregiver, sponsored by First Christian Church. Some of the many additional activities being planned include a live auction, music, entertainment, games by Joint Training Facility, Basket Alley and a luminaria service.

Christian center auction

The Christian Family & Children’s Center annual auction will be held April 8, at the North Campus, 1076 King's Way, Donegal. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for silent auction and preview of items. Live bidding with auctioneer Mark Dixon III will start at 6 p.m. Admission is free and there will be concession foods available to purchase throughout the evening. A rabies clinic will be held from 11 a.m. to noon April 9, at the Confluence Community Center. A fee will be charged. All pets must be leashed or in a carrier. Be sure to bring previous rabies certificate.

Meet the Easter Bunny

Bring the children to meet the Easter Bunny from 2-4 p.m. April 16, at the Windber American Legion. Food, Easter eggs, candy and games. Sign up with the bartender at the Legion by April 14.

Basket party

A basket party fundraiser for the family of Steve Hudak, Shianne and Bransen, is 3-6 p.m. April 10, at Carlyn's Restaurant, 506 15th St., Windber. Walk through basket party will be held live on Carlyn's Facebook page at 6:30 p.m.

Boswell Fish Fry

The Boswell Fish Fry is April 8. Eat-in or take-out at the firemen's grove, 201 Hower Ave., Boswell. The meal includes choice of baked or fried fish, sides, and a dessert.

Paint 'n' Sip

Paint 'n' Sip at QScapes at the Johnstown Galleria Mall at 6 p.m. April 16. Guided by professional artist Carrie Moore of Care Arts, it's an evening of creativity while learning step by step how to recreate your own tulips in the rain, which can be tailored to your own imagination. Carrie Moore studied has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Slippery Rock with a Minor in Art History.

JSO concert

The Johnstown Symphony Orchestra (JSO) will present “Rachmaninoff + Romeo &Juliet” at 7:30 p.m. April 9, at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center. Music Director James Blachly will conduct the orchestra and soloist Michelle Cann in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo et Juliet Suite No. 2 and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy. In partnership with Johnstown’s Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company, six actors will perform as part of the realization of the classic play.The Johnstown Symphony encourages the public to come early for an Invitation to the Music with James Blachly, a free pre-concert talk full of insights on the program at 6:30 p.m. Musicians from the JSO will perform for and chat with the public in the lobby prior to the show from 6:45-7:15 p.m. A cash bar with local wine from Glades Pike Winery, beer, bottled water, and gourmet snacks from Batter Bake Shop will be available for purchase from 6 p.m. through show time, and again at intermission.
