It's either moving on to the next round for the Cleveland Guardians or the New York Yankees or a long winter of discontent for fans of either team.

The teams are deadlocked with two wins each heading into tonight's Game 5 of the ALDS in New York.

What time do the Cleveland Guardians play the New York Yankees?

First pitch for Game 5 of the ALDS was scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET Monday. The game has since been postponed to 4:07 p.m. Tuesday due to weather conditions in New York.

Who are the starting pitchers for the Guardians vs. Yankees in ALDS Game 5?

For the Guardians, Aaron Civale  and his 4.92 ERA will take the mound and make his postseason debut. His last appearance was in the last game of the season when he allowed two runs on five hits. He made two appearances against the Yankees this season and survived just three innings in April after giving up six runs and lasted six innings in July giving up four runs including two homers.

As for the Yankees, Jameson Taillon and his 3.91 ERA is the expected starter and will be making his first post season start of his career. He faced the Guardians once in the regular season and gave up just one run in five innings.

What is a bullpen game in baseball?

Although Civale and Taillon are the starters tonight, Game 5 of the ALDS is expected to be a bullpen game. You'll hear the phrase "bullpen game" plenty during the broadcast. Bullpen games are when a team intentionally uses its relief pitchers throughout the game. This happens when the team's starting pitchers don't have enough rest between starts. Though, for the Guardians and Yankees, it's all hands on deck for Game 5.

Well the history of winner-take-all games postseason series games offers a mixed bag of hope and despair depending on which team you are rooting for. The Cleveland ballclub has lost seven consecutive such games. In recent history, the Yankees have won eight of its last 13 elimination games. But historically, home teams are 61 to 63 in winning. And another New York team the Mets found itself in that loser column when it lost Game 3 at home in National League Wild Card Series.

There's a long history of playoff battles between Cleveland and the Yankees. The two teams have squared in the playoffs five times since 1997 − with the Yankees winning three times − eliminating Cleveland in 2017 and 2020. Cleveland beat the Yankees in the 1997 Division Series on the way to the World Series and again in 2007 before losing to the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS. The Yankees defeated Cleveland in the 1998 ALCS.
