What to know about Kentucky football transfer QB commitment Brock Vandagriff

Kentucky football landed a commitment from former five-star Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff out of the transfer portal Wednesday.

Here is what you need to know about the Wildcats’ likely 2024 starting quarterback.

1. Brock Vandagriff was one of the top recruits in the country out of high school

As a member of the high school class of 2021, Vandagriff was ranked as the No. 4 quarterback and No. 17 recruit in the country by the 247Sports Composite, which averages the ratings of the major recruiting services.

As a senior, he led Prince Avenue Christian, where he was coached by his father Greg, to a Georgia Class A private school state championship and 13-1 record. He completed 70.9% of his passes for more than 4,000 yards with 46 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also showed the ability to make plays with his legs, gaining more than 500 yards and 17 touchdowns on 74 carries.

Vandagriff initially committed to Oklahoma while Lincoln Riley was coach there but flipped to his home state Georgia Bulldogs before signing day.

2. One of Brock Vandagriff’s best games at Georgia came against Kentucky

Vandagriff played only sparingly across three seasons at Georgia, first blocked by Stetson Bennett and later by Carson Beck, who beat him for the starting job in 2023. Vandagriff did appear in eight games as Beck’s backup this season, completing 12 of 18 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He gained 39 yards on five carries.

With No. 1 Georgia blowing out Kentucky in October, Vandagriff played the entire fourth quarter against his new team.

He completed 5 of 7 passes for 46 yards and one touchdown in the 51-13 victory while gaining 27 yards on two carries. Vandagriff would play in four more games after the Kentucky blowout, but he attempted just one more pass.

With Beck trending toward a return to Georgia for the 2024 season, Vandagriff announced he was entering the transfer portal Monday. South Carolina and Mississippi State were among the other schools he reportedly considered before committing to Kentucky, where he will enroll in January.

3. Brock Vandagriff comes from an athletic family with a Kentucky tie

Vandagriff’s father played football at Tennessee Wesleyan. His mother played basketball at Southern Union. Both of Vandagriff’s sisters are athletes as well.

His sister Anna already lives in Kentucky, having just completed her sophomore season as a member of the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team. As a sophomore, Anna Vandagriff was named second-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference. She started 28 of 30 matches for EKU, averaging 2.85 kills and 0.52 blocks per set.

Vandagriff’s youngest sister, Audrey, last month signed to play softball at Alabama. Extra Innings Softball ranks her as the No. 18 recruit in the high school class of 2024.
