What to know about Sheboygan's 6th annual Holiday Lights Run/Walk event

SHEBOYGAN — The Holiday Lights Hunger Run/Walk returns for its sixth year Nov. 18.

The event, sponsored by Sheboygan County Rotary Clubs’ Making Spirits Bright, will take participants through the holiday lights at Evergreen Park.

It is the Sheboygan County Food Bank’s primary fundraiser, which raised $230,000 in total over the past five years. The food bank has seen a roughly 60% increase in food needs since the start of the year.

The run/walk is “critical to make sure nutritious food reaches Sheboygan County families in need, especially as inflation and other challenges are making it difficult for low- and middle-income families to put food on the table,” a news release said.

It is supported by volunteers and local businesses, like Acuity, Johnsonville and Old Wisconsin.

When is the 5K run and 1-mile walk?

The 5K starts at 4 p.m. and two waves of 1-mile walks will start at 5 and 6 p.m., respectively.

Free hot drinks and cookies will be offered in and around the Quarryview Center. Participants can also get a photo with Santa.

Following the race and walk, 3 Sheeps Brewing Company, 1837 North Ave., will host an award ceremony and after-party. It will start around 5:30 p.m. The brewery will donate $1 to the food bank for every pint of beer sold.

The after-party will offer Harvest Street Food Truck street food and Theo’s Pizza by the slice. Pizza is cash only. There will also be a photo booth. Bluegrass quartet Wheels North will perform at 7 p.m.

Where should I park?

Starting at 3 p.m., only volunteers and participants who purchased or reserved parking passes during online registration can park onsite.

Free parking is available offsite within a mile of the event. Some areas include Pigeon River Elementary School, 3 Sheeps Brewing and the area where the North Bowl was between N. 21st Street and Muth Court. There will be shuttle buses operating from 3 to 7 p.m. to take participants to and from the Quarryview Center parking lot.

Participants who are carpooling or who have strollers, wagons and wheelchairs are encouraged to use the drop-off zone on the Quarryview Center parking lot’s south side starting at 3 p.m.
