Here’s what you need to know before you get slimed at Aventura Mall’s Nickelodeon pop up

Bring a change of clothes.

That’s the one essential piece of advice you will thank Miami.com for after visiting Slime City, the newest, latest pop-up at Aventura Mall.

Getting a bucket of green goo dumped over your entire body is practically a rite of passage at this installation, open through Jan. 20. But more on that later.

Attention, Christmas shoppers: Miami’s fanciest mall is about to be covered in green slime

We hit up this 20,000 square foot interactive playground, inspired by the mega-popular Nickelodeon’s TV shows “You Can’t Do That on Television” and “Slime Time Live” and mapped it out for you.

Here is some essential intel before you go:

Be prepared

Fact: Kids have zero patience. Slime City will start to get super busy as the holiday season heats up and wait times for the guided tours could be as much as 15 minutes. Bring a tablet, toy or better yet, a book about Nickelodeon characters.

Find the clues

At the start of the tour, everyone is handed a sheet of paper with a Nickelodeon scavenger hunt. Throughout the installation, smiley staffers will help your mini-me find the hidden figures, like Sponge Bob. Match the character to a letter and solve the mystery. Yay!

Kids’ zone

Though adults will have fun, Slime City is, let’s be frank, kids’ territory. Like many of today’s Instagram-friendly destinations, Slime City has a bunch of rooms with different things going on — eight in total. You can scribble with neon markers in a graffiti zone, throw around clear beach balls in the so called Bubble-Torium, make shapes with your body on a wall of plastic pins and jump around on a giant slime-shaped cushion. You’ll need to remove shoes for that one, and like in Pre-K, there are cubbies.

Strike a pose

There are a few not to miss areas. Pretend you’re Will Smith and pose slime free at the awards podium, bathed in an orange glow. It’s a true Insta moment that will live forever on the ‘Gram. Hashtag, #nostalgia.

It’s happening

Slime City saves the best for last. You know things are about to get real when you see a stack of towels, box of ponchos and a slip-proof rubber floor. Remove your shoes, don the poncho and enter a stall along with eight other fun-seekers. The countdown: Five, four, three, two, one! Then comes the big dump. Your poncho will be a green, icky mess, but the only part of you that gets wet is (hopefully) your bare feet. Workers will guide you to an area where you tidy up and move along to the gift shop for your pic. A 6 x 8 print is $20.

How Miami: Slime City has a VIP package. We didn’t hear about bottle service, but you do get a private booth for the slime for $30 more. No ponchos are required here, but it seems like a good idea. A young mom that went in the VIP booth sans poncho reported that the slime was “very cold.” The sticky substance also got down the back of her jeans and she had dinner plans afterward. So, like we said, big pro tip: Don’t plan on going anywhere but home after Slime City unless you bring a change of clothes. They do provide a “I Got Slimed” T-shirt to all who participate, but the rest is up to you.

Create your own

For a little extra, you can have a custom-slime making experience at the “lab” at the end of the installation. A 4-ounce jar with two mix-in’s costs $12 per participant; an 8-ounce jar with four mix-ins costs $16 per participant. It’s a messy souvenir, but putting all the gunk together makes little people inexplicably happy so you will need to do this.
