All you need to know about travelling out of Shreveport's airport for Thanksgiving

Previous version of this article listed an incorrect number of departures for Allegiant Airlines. Allegiant has four flights per week.

Holiday travel is about to be in full swing with Thanksgiving less than a week away.

Shreveport Regional Airport Marketing and Public Relations Manager Mark Crawford has all your travel tips for this busy time of year.

"Thanksgiving is typically the busiest single weekend we have at the airport," Crawford said.

Arrival time tips

"We recommend if you are flying American, Delta or United you be here at least one hour before your scheduled departure," Crawford said. "If you are flying Allegiant at least two hours before your scheduled departure."

The reason behind these early arrival times is because ticket counters will be closing before the flights. For example, the Allegiant ticket counter closes one hour before the scheduled departure and the other airlines ticket counters close 30 minutes before departure.

Crawford said a lot of people will show up 35 or 25 minutes before their departure because Shreveport is a smaller airport.

The early arrival time allows for travelers to check their bags and be assisted in any way at the ticket counter.

Concessions on Thanksgiving

Your belly will probably be full of turkey on Thanksgiving, but if you are traveling and feel a little hungry the Shreveport Regional Airport has you covered.

The airport has three restaurants.

"The restaurants are typically opened with their departures leaving from the airport," Crawford said.

Although, with the national shortage of workers some restaurants may not be opened.

"Like with so many other businesses in Shreveport-Bossier and around the country labor has been an issue, so there are times while one of the three restaurants may not be open. Their is always at least one restaurant open, typically at least one on each concord," Crawford said.

Flying out of Shreveport

Shreveport offers four different airlines.

  • Delta is doing four departures a day to Atlanta.

  • United is doing three departures a day to Houston and one to Denver.

  • American is doing six or seven departures a day to Dallas and two to Charlotte.

  • Allegiant has four flights a week.

"Many flights are near or at capacity and we are still at a week away from Thanksgiving," Crawford said. "So, there will be more people here than usual, always remember to give yourself enough time to make it through the check-in process and the ticket counter as well as the TSA checkpoint."

All transportation networks are still under a federal mask mandate. Meaning anyone entering the airport must be masked the entire time they are in the building.
