Where did the shooting happen?

The shooting happened at the Waffle House on South Lynhurst Drive, located on the southwest side of the city near the Indianapolis International Airport.

When did the Waffle House shooting occur?

At 12:30 a.m. Feb. 19, 2024 Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the Waffle House.

What happened?

Police said the shooting began as an altercation between two groups at the restaurant, which then escalated to gunfire, although it was not clear if any of the people shot fired guns, multiple outlets reported.

How many people were injured?

Police found five people on the scene with gunshot wounds.

Of the people shot, three men and one woman were in stable condition and one woman was in critical condition. Police said they were transported by ambulances to area hospitals for treatment.

Another gunshot victim, a man, was reportedly in critical condition and either took himself to the hospital or was taken by someone else, police said.

The woman in critical condition died at the hospital.

The woman who died at the hospital was identified as 35-year-old Crystal Kennebrew by the Marion County Coroner's Office.

Kennebrew was a bartender, club promoter and co-owner of Fatso's Pub in Gary. She came to Indianapolis during the NBA All-Star weekend for a party at a club on the northwest side of the city.

Has anyone been arrested in connection with the crime?

Police told Fox59 one handgun was recovered at the Waffle House, and another from a car at an area hospital.

Police have not yet determined if anyone injured in the shooting fired shots and no arrests have been announced as of Tuesday morning.
