What you need to know about winter parking rules around the St. Cloud area

ST. CLOUD — Although there's no snow on the ground yet, the St. Cloud's winter parking rules still go into effect Nov. 1. Here's what you need to know.

St. Cloud's winter parking restrictions

Violating winter parking rules in St. Cloud will result in a $20 ticket, said Allison Trimpe, a community service officer with the St. Cloud Police Department. If your vehicle is towed, costs increase.

Odd/even parking restrictions are in effect in St. Cloud from Nov. 1 to April 1 between 1-7 a.m., regardless of snowfall.

On odd-numbered days between 1-7 a.m., you should park on the side of the street that has even-numbered addresses.

On even-numbered days you should park on the side of the street where the house numbers are odd.

In addition, street parking is prohibited in the following areas from Nov. 1 to April 1 between 1-7 a.m.:

  • The area north and west of the Sauk River

  • The area west of the Mississippi River and south of 22nd Street South

  • The area west of Minnesota Highway 15

  • The area north and east of U.S. Highway 10

  • The area east of the Mississippi River and south of Minnesota Highway 301 and Minnesota Boulevard.

During other hours parking is allowed in these areas as long as the street has been cleared of snow and ice, according to the city's website. If the street is paved and less than 32 feet wide, there is no parking allowed at any time.

If you are parking in the St. Cloud State University neighborhood you must obey the signs posted in the area year-round that will say no parking from 1-7 a.m. either Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

What to know in a snow emergency

During a snow emergency, any vehicle in violation of any parking restriction will be ticketed and immediately towed at the owner's expense.

The city of St. Cloud may declare a snow emergency if "weather exists or has the potential to create hazardous road conditions because of snow, freezing rain, sleet, ice, snowdrifts or blizzard-like conditions," according to the city website.

A snow emergency will exist for 72 hours but may be terminated sooner if conditions improve.

Snow emergency notices will be sent to local news organizations and will be posted on the city's webpage and social media pages.

Sartell's winter parking restrictions

No vehicles can be parked on any Sartell street or alley between 1-7 a.m. November through March. No vehicle can be parked on a street for more than 72 hours within city limits, according to the city's website.

St. Joseph's winter parking restrictions

No parking is allowed on any city street from Nov. 1 to April 1 from 2-7 a.m. in St. Joseph. Vehicles in violation are subject to a fine and immediate towing at the owner's expense.

Waite Park's winter parking restrictions

No street parking is allowed in Waite Park from 2-7 a.m. from Nov. 1 to April 1. Tickets will be issued for winter parking violations and vehicles will be towed if parked on a street when snowplows are working.

Sauk Rapids' winter parking restrictions

In Sauk Rapids, you can't park on a city street between 2-7 a.m. November through March.

Snow emergencies can be declared with the presence or prediction of four or more inches of snow, freezing rain, sleet or other conditions. During a snow emergency, you cannot park a vehicle on any public street or alley unless it is after the street has been fully cleaned.

St. Augusta's winter parking restrictions

No vehicles can be parked on any city street in St. Augusta between 1-7 a.m. November through March.
