Knox County Grand Jury indicts man accused of abusing girlfriend and child

Nov. 1—BARBOURVILLE — A man accused of of assaulting his girlfriend and young child has been indicted by the Knox County Grand Jury.

Scotty McVey, 38, of Barbourville, was indicted Friday on one count each of third-degree criminal abuse, fourth-degree assault, and third-degree terroristic threatening in connection to an incident that occurred on June 21.

The first charge pertains to a minor whom McVey is accused of placing "in a situation which caused her to be in danger of death or serious physical injury."

The other two charges pertain to McVey's girlfriend at the time. He is accused of striking her with a can, putting his hands around her throat and threatening to kill her.

The woman and child were taken to Barbourville ARH for treatment.

The Knox County Sheriff's Department initially responded to the domestic call, placing McVey into custody and lodging him in the Knox County Detention Center.

With the grand jury determining all counts to be misdemeanors, McVey has been scheduled to appear in Knox District Court on November 14 for a pretrial conference.

Readers are reminded that an indictment is a formal charge by a grand jury and is not a conviction or admission of guilt.
