Knox News honored
Knox News reporters, photojournalists and editors were honored with 10 awards at the 2023 Tennessee State Press Contest presented by the University of Tennessee System and the Tennessee Press Association.
Newsrooms across the state compete in divisions based on size. Knox News is in the most competitive top division that brings together the state's largest newsrooms.
"I'm thrilled the judges recognized so many facets of our news operation in this year's awards, from our strong investigative reporting that analyzed police data to intimate profiles to moments of shared joy at Neyland Stadium," said Knox News editor Joel Christopher.
Five of our awards were first places:

Two were second places:
Tyler Whetstone and Areena Arora for Best News Reporting: Knoxville tries to keep secret how it hired a police chief
Brianna Paciorka for Best Sports Photograph: Consolation and comfort, a photograph seen around the country after Tennessee's Kennedy Chandler sobbed in the arms of Michigan head coach Juwan Howard in the moments after the team suffered a heartbreaking loss in the NCAA Tournament.
