Knox News photojournalist Calvin Mattheis shares his favorite photos of 2022

A highlight this year was traveling to Durham, North Carolina, with co-worker Ryan Wilusz to report on the success of the minor league baseball team there. We reported on how the planned downtown Knoxville stadium could have similar success through several stories, videos and podcasts.

As always, I look forward to the picture I will take tomorrow. Or in this case, next year!

Patrick Vaughn, co-owner of the Von Bryan Estate, walks through three burned firefighting engines which fought the Hatcher Mountain/Indigo Lane wildfire at the property last week on Hatcher Mountain Road in Wears Valley, Tenn. Vaughn said the first responders narrowly escaped with their lives. Piles or rubble and the melted fire engines are all that remain at the former 10,000-square-foot family run bed and breakfast. The Hatcher Mountain/Indigo Lane fire burned roughly 2,500 acres and affected 219 structures in the Great Smoky Mountains community.
