Knoxville-area high school girls basketball rankings: Gatlinburg-Pittman climbs into top 5

Here’s a look at the top 10 Knoxville-area girls high school basketball teams ranked by Knox News.

1. Bearden (24-0): The top spot remains unchanged as the Lady Bulldogs maintain their perfect season. They defeated District 4-4A rivals Farragut and Maryville. Freshman guard Natalya Hodge had a strong week: 20 points and five assists against Maryville and 22 points, seven steals and four assists against Farragut. Last week: Ranked No.1.

2. Alcoa (22-2): The Lady Tornadoes haven’t lost since Jan. 3 and extended their win streak to eight after beating Sevier County for the second week in a row and Union County. Last week: Ranked No. 2.

WEEK 11 TOP PERFORMERS: Knoxville area high school basketball top performers for Week 11

3. Heritage (20-2): The Lady Mountaineers defeated Halls 61-52 on Tuesday and Maryville 65-61 on Friday. Sophomore Carsyn Swaney is averaging about 15 points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists per game this season. Last week: Ranked No. 3.

4. Gatlinburg-Pittman (19-4): The Lady Highlanders defeated Seymour (17-8) in the one game they played last week. The Gatlinburg-Pittman star Maddy Newman is averaging about 21 points and six rebounds per game on 60% field-goal shooting. Last week: Ranked No. 7.

5. Sevier County (18-6): The Bearettes lost to Alcoa 51-43 on Tuesday and beat Jefferson County 58-34 on Friday. They are the only District 2-4A team with a perfect conference record. Last week: Ranked No. 4.

6. Christian Academy of Knoxville (21-5): CAK pushes its win streak to 10 games after defeating Apostolic Christian and Grace Christian Academy. Senior Kiera Leffew leads her team averaging about 14 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks per game. Last week: Ranked No. 6.

7. Greeneville (17-6): After beating Claiborne 80-45 on Tuesday, the Lady Green Devils had their eight-game win streak surprisingly snap Friday in a 48-45 loss to Dobyns-Bennett (8-16). Last week: Ranked No. 5.

8. Knoxville Catholic (13-10): Catholic has won nine of its last 11 games. In the Irish's 71-47 win against Chattanooga Christian, freshman Logan Connatser scored 19 points and junior Sydney Mains scored 18 points. Last week: Ranked No. 9.

9. Lenoir City (18-2): The Lady Panthers haven’t lost a game since Dec. 20 and are a game away from a perfect record in the month of January. In Lenoir City’s two games, they beat South Doyle 56-30 on Tuesday and Austin East 58-41 on Friday. Last week: Ranked No. 8.

10. Farragut (16-9): Only three of Farraugts losses, including Friday’s 55-40 defeat to Bearden, have been more than double-digits this season. It won one game last week, beating Hardin Valley Academy 57-43. Last week: Ranked No. 10.
