Knoxville-area high school girls basketball rankings: Bearden is 30-0 and stays No. 1

Here are the top 10 Knoxville-area girls' high school basketball teams ranked by Knox News.

1. Bearden (30-0): The Lady Bulldogs beat Alcoa, one of the best Class 2A teams in the state, for the second time last Monday, winning 61-50. After a 13-point win over Maryville in the District 4-4A semifinals on Friday, Bearden will play Heritage in the district championship on Monday. Last week: Ranked No. 1.

2. Alcoa (28-3): Two of Alcoa’s three losses have been to Bearden, arguably the best team in the state. The Lady Tornadoes’ senior guard Karli Haworth averaged 21.5 points per game in the team's two games last week. Last week: Ranked No. 2.

3. Christian Academy of Knoxville (28-5): CAK won the Division II-A East Region championship 47-26 against The King’s Academy. Senior Keira Leffew had 17 points and 19 rebounds in the win. Last week: Ranked No. 3.

4. Gatlinburg-Pittman (23-5): The Lady Highlanders beat Pigeon Forge 60-17 in the District 2-2A semifinals and will play Alcoa in the championship game Monday. Freshman Nya Burns had 15 points, four rebounds and seven assists in the semifinal win. Last week: Ranked No. 4.

5. Heritage (24-5): The Lady Mountaineers entered the week on a three-game losing streak but bounced back to win two games in the District 4-4A tournament. Heritage’s 50-45 semifinal win against Farragut, led by Carysn Swaney, was the first time it defeated the Lady Admirals on the road since 2009. Last week: Ranked No. 5.

6. Knoxville Catholic (18-12): Junior guard Sydney Mains averaged 17.5 points per game in the Lady Irish's wins against Chatanooga Christian and Hamilton Heights. Last week: Ranked No. 7.

7. Greeneville (23-7): Greeneville will play the District 2-3A championship against Grainger on Monday after it won its two games last week. Senior Lauren Bailey averaged 23 points against Morristown East and Claiborne. Last week: Ranked No. 8.

8. Sevier County (22-7): Sevier County lost to Jefferson County 43-42 in the District 2-4A semifinals on Friday. Earlier in the season, the Bearettes beat Jefferson 58-34. Sevier County won the district consolation game against Morristown East by 20 points on Saturday. Last week: Ranked No. 6.

9. Oak Ridge (19-9): Oak Ridge has lost only once in its last 17 games. The Lady Wildcats defeated Campbell County 62-40 in the District 3-4A tournament behind Ayana Porter’s 23 points, six assists and four steals. They will play Karns in the championship game Monday. Last week: Ranked No. 10.

10. Farragut (20-10): The Lady Admirals lost 50-45 to Heritage in the District 4-4A semifinals at home. Farragut, which was on a four-game win streak, will face Maryville in the district’s consolation game on Monday. Last week: Ranked No. 9.
