Knoxville-area high school girls basketball rankings: CAK enters top five

Here are the top 10 Knoxville-area girls' high school basketball teams ranked by Knox News.

1. Bearden (26-0): The Lady Bulldogs continue to prove they are clearly the best team in the area and one of the best in the state. They defeated fellow District 4-4A opponents William Blount 53-26 and Hardin Valley 62-32. Last week: Ranked No. 1.

2. Alcoa (24-2): The Lady Tornadoes are on a 10-game win streak capped by a 65-53 over Gatlinburg-Pittman on Friday. Karli Haworth had 21 points, four steals and two assists against the Highlanders. Last week: Ranked No. 2.

3. Heritage (22-3): The Lady Mountaineers dropped one of the three games they played last week. Heritage beat Hardin Valley and Tellico Plains, but lost to Farragut on Friday. The 41-38 loss was on the road and snapped its five-game win streak. Last week: Ranked No. 3.

4. Christian Academy of Knoxville (23-5): CAK ended its regular season winning 12 games straight and all 10 of its Division II-A East district games. One of its most impressive wins on the season was a 59-50 win over Knoxville Catholic on Tuesday. Last week: Ranked No. 6.

5. Gatlinburg-Pittman (20-5): Gatlinburg-Pittman had its five-game win streak snapped after it lost to Alcoa 64-53. The Lady Highlanders had a strong second-half effort against a more experienced Lady Tornadoes squad and remain one of the top Class 2A teams. Last week: Ranked No. 4.

6. Sevier County (20-6): Sevier County beat Seymour 46-42 and Morristown West 51-32. The Bearettes will play their last game of the regular season against Karns (17-10) on Friday. Last week: Ranked No. 5.

7. Knoxville Catholic (14-11): Catholic bounced back from its CAK loss last week and had an impressive 54-40 win over Greeneville. Next week, the Lady Irish face off against Division II-AA East rivals Baylor and Knoxville Webb. Last week: Ranked No. 8.

8. Greeneville (19-7): Greeneville is 2-2 in its last four games, following eight consecutive wins. The lone loss of its three games last week was against Catholic. Last week: Ranked No. 7.

9. Farragut (18-9): The Lady Admirals defeated Maryville 45-36 and handed Heritage its third loss of the season, winning 41-38 on Friday. Last week: Ranked No. 10.

10. Lenoir City (20-2): The Lady Panthers sealed its 20th win when it beat Anderson County 45-36. This is their first 20-win season in 26 years. Last week: Ranked No. 9.
