Sophs taken by Moline

GALESBURG — The Galesburg High School sophomore boys basketball team suffered a 71-51 loss to Moline on Friday evening at Thiel Gym.

Ayden Almaguer had 16 points to lead the Silver Streaks. Jace Keith added 15 points, and Amarie Richardson had 10 points for Galesburg.

AREA BOYS BASKETBALL

Blue Bullets down Tigers

KNOXVILLE — Behind David Hise’s 23 points, the Knoxville High School boys basketball team downed Sherrard 48-27 on Friday night.

Braden Downs pitched in 14 points for the Blue Bullets (4-0).

In other area action, Farmington edged Monmouth-Roseville 44-43. The Titans now hold a 3-3 overall mark in Jake Sottos’ first season at the helm.

In rural Monmouth, United routed Orion 69-34.

GALESBURG BOYS SWIMMING

Galesburg opens season with win

PEKIN — The Galesburg High School boys swimming and diving team opened its season Friday night with a 130-56 win over Pekin.

Riley Stevenson, Zeke Kent, Luke Thomas and Carson Olson formed the Streaks’ 200 yard medley relay team, and the quartet took first in 1:45.67.

Stevenson, a sophomore, placed first in the 200 IM in 2:07.87 and in the 100 yard backstroke (56.19).

Olson, a freshman, won the 50 yard free in 24.24 seconds, and he touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (59.04).

Galesburg junior Luke Foster won the 100 free (52.90), and Thomas clocked a 1:08.58 in the 100 yard breaststroke for a first place finish.

The Streaks’ 200 yard free relay team (Nathan Nelson, Kent, Olson, Foster) took first in 1:38.86.
