Knoxville police ID 40-year-old man killed in April 26 hit and run on Chapman Highway

The Knoxville Police Department has identified the man killed by a hit-and-run driver April 26 on Chapman Highway as Zachariah Allen, 40.

Officers responded to the scene on Chapman Highway at Fort Avenue, just south of the Henley Street Bridge, at around 1:40 a.m. April 26, a department spokesperson said in a press release.

They found Allen in the intersection, the release said. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a witness reported Allen had been hit by a black SUV while walking across Chapman Highway, and that the SUV continued to drive south after striking him, the release said.

The SUV driver has not been identified or arrested, the release said. Police urged anyone with information to call East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
