Knoxville police identify woman who died in crash that may be tied to Bebo's Cafe shooting

Knoxville police released the identity of the woman who died after a car crash May 15, but still are investigating her connection to a shooting at Bebo's Cafe earlier that day.

Police believe Destiny Jones, 24, of Anderson County, was struck by gunfire but that has not been independently confirmed by Medical Examiner’s Office, a police department spokesperson said in a press release.

An autopsy is underway in an effort to determine if Jones died as a result of a gunshot wound or the crash, the release said.

Around 3 a.m. May 15, officers responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Bebo’s Café on Gleason Drive in the Downtown West neighborhood. Shell casings were found in the parking lot, but no gunshot victims were there, the release said. Police say they believe multiple people fired shots.

A short time later, officers found a car they thought drove away from the shooting, which had crashed on the Kingston Pike ramp to southbound Alcoa Highway. Jones, who was a passenger, was thrown from the car and pronounced dead after she was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, the release said.

Bebo's Cafe was the scene of a fatal shooting last August when 29-year-old Cedric Isom was found dead in the parking lot.
