DOWNS — One of the best football seasons in Knoxville High School history ended Saturday with a 46-22 loss to Downs Tri-Valley in an IHSA Class 2A game.

It was too much Blake Regenold for Knoxville as the Blue Bullets saw the 6-2, 195-pound Vikings running back rush for 408 yards and five touchdowns in the game.

Knoxville finished the season 9-3 and became one of four Blue Bullets teams to reach the playoff quarterfinals.

Tri-Valley rose to 10-2 and is scheduled to play the winner of Moroa Forsyth (11-0) vs. Rockridge (10-2) in the semifinals next Saturday.

The Blue Bullets fell behind quickly when Downs' opening drive of 64 yards was capped by Regenold's first TD and conversion run for an 8-0 lead.

Regenold rushed for three TDs and 292 yards by halftime to put his team ahead 30-7.

Knoxville's first-half score came on a run by Jaxin Johnson.

A 38-yard run by Regenold helped make it 38-7 after three quarters and his 63-yard scamper pushed the margin to 46-7 midway through the fourth quarter.

Oscar Young's 24-yard TD run and  64-yard pass play from Beau Honecutt to Johnson accounting for the two Knoxville touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
