Komodo Dragon Tramples On Tourist's Phone

As his Instagram and YouTube accounts attest, Canadian John Hawkins loves to get close to nature when traveling. So, inevitably, his visit to Komodo Island wouldn’t be complete without an encounter with one of the island’s native Komodo dragons.

In a video Hawkins said was recorded on July 15, his phone is set down on the ground to capture a good angle of a Komodo dragon in its natural habitat.

As Hawkins’ video shows, he did indeed capture a good angle of the dragon, as it stomped over his phone.

Komodo Island, part of the Lesser Sunda chain of Indonesian islands, is set to be closed to tourists in 2020 in an effort to protect its native wildlife. Hawkins, then, was lucky to get a glimpse of the island, and its rare inhabitants, while he still could. Credit: John Hawkins via Storyful
