4. (SOUNDBITE) (French) ANDERLECHT HEAD COACH, VINCENT KOMPANY, SAYING:

"Basically, for me it is important to put an end to an exceptional chapter, an exceptional adventure during which I suffered a lot. This is what made the story even more beautiful. People remember the prizes and the trophies that my teams and I were able to win, but I mostly remember the moments of isolation when I was alone in the face of all the opinions and (when I had to face) myself, facing my body. Each time I came back and the Vincent who came back was not a Vincent who demanded less of himself or asked the team to demand less."

8. (SOUNDBITE) (French) ANDERLECHT HEAD COACH, VINCENT KOMPANY, SAYING:

"My even bigger goal (as a coach) is to make sure that I give all I have to the club and to its supporters because what I feel every day is that they are like a hungry micro-country, micro-nation. That's what they deserve. That's why I want to highlight (by focusing on my role as a coach)."

10. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ANDERLECHT HEAD COACH, VINCENT KOMPANY, RESPONDING TO QUESTION ABOUT WHAT HIS MESSAGE TO MANCHESTER CITY FANS WOULD BE AFTER THEIR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DEFEAT, SAYING:

"Look at 10 years ago, how the club was perceived and the legends that the club has produced now. And my second message would be to have no doubts. It's just a matter of time before they win the Champion's League and to have no doubts that everything this man, Pep Guardiola, is doing is far better than anybody else could offer. And trust me, I have experienced it and to just be the same Manchester City fans as always who believe and are positive."

"I took a lot from Manchester to inject it into Anderlecht. It is therefore a continual apprenticeship. I learned quite a bit from people who saw football in a certain way. I think that there is an extraordinary expectation on my part towards all the people who work at the club, just like it is towards me."

And any Man City fan has probably (seen) the most successful time in the club's history and I think that's Vincent at his most easy to describe is that he's a real leader in a dressing room. He's someone that he does things properly and that his level of performance was of an elite centre-half that will inspire many generations to come."

15. NEWS CONFERENCE ENDING

STORY: Vincent Kompany spoke at a news conference on Monday (August 17) after has announcing his retirement from playing soccer to take over as full-time head coach of Anderlecht.

The 34-year-old Kompany, who had shared first-team duties with Frank Vercauteren, will be head coach for the next four seasons.

Kompany joined Anderlecht as player manager in May last year after spending 11 years with Premier League side Manchester City.

He stepped down from his management role three months later to concentrate on playing.

Anderlecht finished eighth in the Belgian Pro League last season with Kompany making 15 appearances.

Kompany joined Manchester City from Hamburg in 2008 and soon became club captain, helping them win four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups.

In Monday's news conference, Kompany had a message for Manchester City fans after their team suffered a 3-1 defeat by Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League quarter-finals on Saturday (August 15). He stressed that the club is in good hands with manager Pep Guardiola and that it's only a matter of time before they win their first Champions League title.

Kompany also made 89 appearances for Belgium and was part of the squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez paid tribute to his former player describing him as a true leader and an inspiration to many generations of players to come.

Kompany will make his full-time managerial debut in Sunday's (August 23) league game against Mouscron. Anderlecht are third in the standings with four points from two games.
