Kontji Anthony is coming back to Memphis TV

Former WMC Action News 5 anchor Kontji Anthony announced her return to Memphis TV Monday, Sept. 18. Her return comes about a year after she announced her departure from WMC where she worked for 17 years.

Anthony announced her return to TV on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, saying she will join competing local news station, WREG News Channel 3.

Anthony said in her tweet, "Exciting life update! 💕 I’m thrilled to announce my return to TV at @3onyourside. See you on the small screen soon! Stay tuned."

Her announcement was met with hundreds of likes on X/Twitter and over a thousand likes on Instagram.

It has not been announced the exact date of return, and Anthony has not been added to the list of reporters on Channel 3's site as of Tuesday morning.

Why did Kontji Anthony leave WMC Action News 5

The New Rochelle, New York, native started at WMC in 2008 where she worked as a weekend reporter and moved to a weekend anchor. She moved to one of the lead anchors in 2015.

She announced her departure from the station in March last year. WMC Vice President and General Manager Jonathan Mitchell said Anthony came to him earlier in the week and said the COVID-19 pandemic got her thinking about her future.

"It was totally her decision… we get it, she's been doing it for 17 years here at the station," he said.

Since her departure in last year, Anthony created Youdle, an app for small businesses and shoppers to buy and sell products more easily.
