Kootenai National Forest hosting public meetings for Cedar Creek project

Jun. 27—The Kootenai National Forest Libby Ranger District is offering the public a chance to learn more about the proposed Norman McCedar Project near Libby.

Those interested in the area and the planned work may participate on two different occasions.

The first is a virtual meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 27. The meeting will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams. Therefore, please provide an email address with your RSVP to receive a meeting invitation.

The second is a field trip from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 13.

Field trip attendees will meet at the Kootenai National Forest Supervisor's Office on U.S. 2 at 9 a.m., then caravan the short distance to the project area, carpool if possible.

Water and food will not be provided.

Located about one mile west of Libby, the project area extends south from U.S. 2 to Parmenter Creek and includes the Cedar Creek drainage.

The is offering an opportunity for interested parties to learn about the Norman McCedar project area, ask questions, and participate in the planning process.

Found within a high priority fireshed and entirely within the wildland urban interface, there is a need to reduce fuel loadings and improve ingress access to facilitate safer wildlife fire operations and improve the diversity and resilience of vegetative communities. There is also a need to contribute to continued timber production and economic sustainability.

Anyone interested in the management of federal lands in the project area is welcome to attend one or both opportunities.

If interested, please RSVP to Mandy Rockwell, team leader, at mandy.rockwell@usda.gov or 406-283-7677.
