SEOUL, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- South Korean drama GyeongSeong Creature topped the Netflix global charts Tuesday, four days after its release, according to data streaming tracker, FlixPatrol.

The seven-episode drama directed by Jung Dong-yoon, however, slipped to second place Wednesday after U.K. TV show My Life with the Walter Boys overtook the top spot.

The drama still remains the most popular in 13 countries: Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuwait, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

In the United States, it was in eighth place Wednesday.

The remaining three episodes of the initial season will become available on Jan. 5. Netflix has not indicated whether the second season will follow.

Set in the spring of 1945 when Korea was under Japan's colonial rule, a young man and woman struggle for survival in Seoul against a monster born out of human greed.

"GyeongSeong," a part of the drama title, is the old name for Seoul.

"The monster is neither powerful nor awesome. It's a sad creature, and I tried to highlight that part. Such aspects are revealed in the body and via its behavior," Director Jung said in a press event held prior to the show's release.

The drama features mostly Korean actors and actresses, including Park Seo-jun, Han So-hee, Claudia Kim, Kim Hae-sook, and Jo Han-chul.

Han is well-known to Netflix fans for the television series My Name from late 2021, a Korean drama that reached No. 3 in the global Netflix charts.

South Korea's Studio Dragon produced GyeongSeong Creature with help from Dexter Studios for special effects.
