Thank you Kourtney Kardashian for inspiring us all to have more fun with our nails. The reality TV star, and founder of wellbeing site, Poosh, has taken to Instagram of late to cryptically confirm her relationship with US singer, Travis Barker, with a series of nail selfies.

A few weeks back she posted a hand holding shot displaying a heart-shaped manicure to announce, albeit cryptically, that the pair are indeed a couple.

Then, this week, Kardashian continued the theme with another post of her floral decorated nails pointing towards Barker's new tattoo bearing her name. In updating her followers about her relationship status, she has also ignited the trend for grown-up nail art, something nail salons will be pleased to hear in their reopening week.

Kardashian, who is in her 40's, usually opts for natural, but is among millions of us who are hankering after a more creative way to express ourselves after a year of being in and of out lockdown.

And with the weather improving and summer on its way, now is the perfect time to experiment with your manicure, whether that's booking a nail art appointment in salon or painting your nails at home.

Catwalk nail artist and CND's Global Ambassador, Marian Newman, says: "Forget less is more, right now it's all about more is more, even if it's just fleeting, decorate your hands and feet in colours that make you happy."

Speaking of colours, Marian says CND's Vinylux Change Sparker, a flattering taupey grey mixed with Smile Maker, a skin flattering yellow are the perfect pair for spring.

She says, try a yellow and grey french manicure. "If you're usually traditional, go for dove grey on the bed of your nail with a tiny tip of yellow for a happy pop of colour - if want to be more bold, do it the other way around."

Newman adds that, when it comes to nail art, a bright tie-dye look is on trend and can be achieved with a marbling effect.

"Whether it's toes or fingers, remember that nail polish is temporary, so really go for it, regardless of age. It's time to revert back to your inner hippy."
