KPMG Women’s PGA field nearly set, Haley Moore in favorable position to take final spot

The field is set for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, with one spot being held for the winner of this week’s ShopRite LPGA Classic. This year’s Women’s PGA will be held at Aronimink Golf Club Oct. 8-11 in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

Should the winner of this week’s event already be qualified, the first alternate, rookie Haley Moore, will be the last player in KPMG’s 132-player field.

World No. 2 Nelly Korda headlines the tournament along with past champions Danielle Kang (No. 3), Brooke Henderson (No. 4) and Sung Hyun Park (No. 6).

Both Korda and Henderson lost in a playoff to Mirim Lee earlier this month at the ANA Inspiration. Lee is also in the field.

Top-ranked Jin Young Ko, who has yet to play this season, will not make the trip to Pennsylvania. Neither will fellow South Koreans Jeong Eun Lee5, Hyo Joo Kim or So Yeon Ryu, all of whom are ranked inside the top 13.

Sophia Popov, winner of the AIG Women’s British Open, is in the field. She tied for 24th at the Cambia Portland Classic, her first start on the LPGA since Royal Troon.

Rookie Bianca Pagdanganan of the Philippines played her way into her first major of the year after making her fourth consecutive cut on the LPGA in Portland.

There are eight teaching and club professionals in the field as well as two sponsor exemptions: Germany’s Sandra Gal and Julia Engstrom of Sweden.
