Krewe of Bacchus takes over Uptown Sunday night

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Thirty-two floats carrying about 1,600 riders, along with bands, dance teams and more, made up this year’s Bacchus parade.

Thousands of people lined up on either side of the street, getting in on all of the excitement.

“I’m feeling great. It’s cool to see the community come together and everybody super hyped up,” paradegoer Michael Civitano said.

“It’s going great! Yeah! I’m originally from Colorado. I’ve lived here for eight years. I married a Louisianan so I’m here,” paradegoer Cassidy Machler said.

This year, Bacchus featured a star-studded cast, including Louisiana’s own social media chef Stale Kracker, as well as entourage star and this year’s king Kevin Dillon.

“It just feels like such an honor to be added to this list of all these great guys and it just great. They’re taking such great care of me and my family and I think I’ve made friends that I’ll have the rest of my life,” Dillon said.

“Aw man, they treat me great. The weather cooperated. We’re going to get it dude,” Stale Kracker said.

For many, Bacchus stands out for their extravagant float design, and this year it was no different, featuring visuals you won’t see anywhere else.

“It’s incredible. I mean, just like the amount of artwork that goes into these things. Combining that with the lights and the intensity of their costumes. This is unlike any other city in the world and I’m super happy to be here,” paradegoer Nicholas Licausi said.

While there was a little bit of a weather scare throughout the evening, that didn’t seem to shake the mood one bit for anyone out.

“It really encapsulates how the city comes together rain or shine. Get the ponchos on, so it’s really cool to see the community aspect of it is super strong this time of year,” Civitano said.
