Krieger's hot hand lifts No. 7 Notre Dame girls basketball team to road win at Central Lee

Lauren Krieger's 16 points led No.7 (Class 1A) Notre Dame High School to a 63-40 win over Central Lee in a SEI Superconference South Division girls basketball game at Donnellson Tuesday night.

Krieger sank six field goals, four of them from 3-point range. Gabby Deery scored 13 points for the Nikes, Reagan Engberg and Maddy Mosena scored nine each and Megan Harrell added seven points.

Central Lee's Bailey Schwartz led all scorers with 18 points via six 3-pointers. Mya Lampe scored 11 points with three 3-pointers and Makayla Morrison added five points.

Notre Dame (15-0, 12-0) plays a non-conference game Saturday at Fort Madison. Central Lee (10-6, 9-4) plays Holy Trinity at Fort Madison Friday.

NO. 10 MEDIAPOLIS 40, W-MU 39: The 10th-ranked (Class 2A) Bullettes needed an overtime to beat the Wolves in a North Division game at Winfield.

Mediapolis led 10-8 to close the first quarter, but W-MU led 20-18 and 28-24 at the next two quarter stops. A 13-9 Mediapolis run in the fourth quarter knotted the score at 37, forcing the overtime.

Hallie Mohr led Mediapolis with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Payton Bush scored 13 points and Haley Steffener had five points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Bradie Buffington led Winfield-Mount Union with 14 points. Jobey Malone scored 13 and Melina Oepping added six.

Mediapolis remained unbeaten in 16 games. The Bullettes lead the North Division at 13-0 and play a non-conference game Saturday at Mount Pleasant. Winfield-Mount Union (14-3, 11-2) plays at Wapello Friday.

DANVILLE 51, HOLY TRINITY 44: The Bears came from behind to knock off Holy Trinity in a South Division game at Danville.

Holy Trinity led 16-12 at the first quarter stop, but Danville led 26-23 at halftime.

Jaeda Molle led Danville with 17 points. Ava Smith scored nine points, Graci Walker and Cassidy Yaley each scored eight and Makenzie Morris added six.

Danville (6-10, 5-7) hosts New London Friday. Holy Trinity (10-7, 10-4) hosts Central Lee Friday.

WAPELLO 49, LONE TREE 37: Lindsy Massner scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Arrows to a North Division win at Lone Tree.

Wapello's Serah Shafer finished with 12 points, six rebounds and eight steals. Tatum Wolford added seven points. Massner had a team-high seven rebounds.

Kasey Chown led Lone Tree with 21 points.

PEKIN 40, COLUMBUS 19: Lily Coil scored 11 points, Frannie Sosa added five points and Aracely Garza tossed in three points, but the Wildcats came up short in a North Division game at Packwood.

Kerrigan Pope led the Panthers with 18 points, while Claire Roth added 10 points.

Columbus (3-13, 2-10) plays Thursday at Louisa-Muscatine.

BOYS BASKETBALL

NOTRE DAME 65, CENTRAL LEE 36: Four Nikes scored in double figures and Notre Dame coasted to a South Division win at Donnellson.

Carsen Jones led the Nikes with 14 points. Liam Delaney scored 12, Owen Gulick had 12 and Hunter Lillie added 10. Notre Dame sank 10 3-pointers. Gulick and Delaney made three each and Lillie and Jack Brent each sank two 3-pointers. Brent finished with seven points

Alex Sandoval led Central Lee with 11 points. Corbin Pohren had nine points and Brayden Wyrick added eight.

Notre Dame (5-10, 4-7) plays at top-ranked (Class 3A) Fort Madison Saturday. Central Lee (0-15, 0-12) hosts Holy Trinity Friday.

NO. 10 DANVILLE 63, HOLY TRINITY 41: Drake Johnson led three Bears in double figures as No. 10 (Class 1A) Danville trimmed Holy Trinity in a South Division game at Danville.

Johnson scored a game-high 24 points. Caiden Gourley scored 15 points and Cadence Williams scored 10. Ty Carr added seven points. Mike DiPrima led the Crusader with 12 points, Maddox Rung scored 10, Conner Gehling had eight and Luke Hellige added six.

Danville (14-1, 11-1) plays at New London Friday. Holy Trinity (3-13, 3-9) hosts Central Lee Friday.

WAPELLO 55, LONE TREE 42: Maddox Griffin poured in a school-record 41 points to lead the Indians to a North Division win over the Lions at Lone Tree.

Griffin sank 16 field goals — three 3-pointers — and was 6-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Casey Short added five points for the Indias, while Jackson Lanz scored four points, Carson Belzer had three points and Tade Parsons added two points.

Cade Patterson led the Lions with 11 points.

Wapello (9-8, 8-5) hosts Winfield-Mount Union on Friday.

WACO 71, VAN BUREN COUNTY 45: Hunter Hughes scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Warriors to a South Division win at Keosauqua.

Also for WACO, Simeon Reichenberger score 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and had five steals, while Cody Graber grabbed six rebounds, Reece Oswald scored 14 points and had four assists, Colton Leichty pulled down six rebounds and Isaac Oswald handed out four assists.

WACO hosts West Burlington on Friday.

PREP WRESTLING

GRAYHOUNDS SWEEP: Burlington swept a double dual at Johannsen Gymnasium, beating Keokuk 72-12 and Illini West 60-18.

Keokuk defeated Illini West 30-18. Illini West had just three wrestlers and all three — Lance Belshaw, Shawn Watkins and Ed Siverly — won both of their matches.

Burlington had 10 double winners. Caleb Zaugg (182 pounds), Noah Simpson (195) and heavyweight Julius Harris each won by a fall and a forfeit. Winning two forfeits each were Braxton Hutchinson (106), Buxton Carlson (113), Jacob Widmer (120), Adam Lundquist (126), Titus Counterman (132), Brian Velazquez (138) and Julian Perez-Hall (220). The Grayhounds' Micah Zaugg (145) and Owen Baker (152) each recorded one win via fall.

Keokuk's Kolbe Barnes won forfeits at both 170 and 182 pounds. Hunter Hagge picked up one win by fall.

For Illini West, Belshaw(152) and Watkins (160) both recorded two wins by fall and Siverly (170) won a fall and a forfeit.
