Kris Kristofferson’s ranch spanning nearly 560 acres along the pristine Mendocino coastline in Northern California just hit the market for $17.2 million.
The singer, songwriter and actor has owned the ranch, which encompasses a mile of ocean frontage, since 1980.
The historic land dates back to the 1890s, when it started as a dairy farm and creamery. The original road house and barns remain standing today. Below the road house, there’s a rocky, cavernous cliff called Devils Basin, which was used for a dramatic setting in the movie “Karate Kid 3,” according to Sotheby’s International Realty, which holds the listing.
A new owner can use the land for cattle grazing, timber production or residential development, according to the listing.
“Never before has a property of this caliber been offered on the Mendocino Coast,” Sotheby’s states in its marketing material.
Roads cutting through the ranch run from the edge of the ocean to the meadows that overlook Manchester State Park. There is abundant forestland of redwood and fir trees.
“This is a place of solace,” according to Sotheby’s listing. “A fortress of solitude. Where tranquility in nature surrounds and heightens the senses. Where Pacific Ocean backdrops accentuate the majesty of old growth redwoods.”
Located three hours north of San Francisco, the ranch lies near the town of Elk, where Michelin-starred dining can be found at the Harbor House. The Little River Airport is about 20 minutes away.
Kristofferson and his wife Lisa have decided to sell the property because “it’s time to let it go and move on,” Justin Nadeau, listing agent with Mendo Sotheby’s International Realty, told The Wall Street Journal.
