Krispy Kreme eases pain of cell service outage with a free doughnut. What to know

Krispy Kreme is offering respite amid widespread cell service outage — but not for long.

Doughnut lovers can get a free Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at participating stores nationwide, the Charlotte-based doughnut and coffee chain said.

The offer is only valid Thursday, Feb. 22, and no purchase is required.

Free doughnuts are limited to one per customer, according to the restaurant.

“Even when cellular service is out, the Hot Light stays on!” Krispy Kreme said.

Early Thursday, several thousand customers began reporting issues with their cellphone service, according to the Associated Press.

The outages started around 3:30 a.m. and were reported across multiple providers, including AT&T, the outlet reported, citing Downdetector. Reported incidents peaked at around 73,000.

As of Thursday afternoon, AT&T said service was restored to impacted customers.

Additional information wasn’t immediately available.
