Krispy Kreme is showing their support for the American Red Cross following an announcement from the organization about a national blood crisis. The donut chain is offering customers who show proof of blood donation a free dozen donuts to further entice individuals to help out.
In a news release from January 11, the Red Cross explained the current crisis. "The American Red Cross is facing a national blood crisis–its worst blood shortage in more than a decade," they wrote. "Dangerously low blood supply levels are posing a concerning risk to patient care and forcing doctors to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available."
Krispy Kreme posted a follow-up announcement on their social channels saying they will give out a free dozen original glazed donuts to those who donate through the end of January. All you have to do is show a donation sticker or proof of blood donation through the Red Cross blood donor app. This isn't the first time Krispy Kreme has supported people during a public health crisis. In 2021, the chain offered customers free donuts if they could show proof of their COVID-19 vaccinations.
It's important to note that there are several eligibility requirements for individuals who may want to donate blood including specific rules around health, weight, family history, and age. You can read about those requirements and schedule a blood donation appointment near you on the Red Cross website.
