Kristen Stewart admits she many have come across as an 'a**hole' at the start of her career

Kristen Stewart has admitted that her shyness and unwillingness to be ‘the centre of attention’ may have given people the wrong impression of her, back at the beginning of her acting career.

Stewart began acting as a child, appearing in movies like The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, Panic Room with Jodie Foster and Jumper with Hayden Christensen.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, she said: “I think I’ve grown out of this, but I used to be really frustrated that because I didn’t leap willingly into being at the centre of a certain amount of attention, that it seemed like I was an a**hole.

“I am in no way rebellious. I am in no way contrarian. I just want people to like me.”

It was playing Bella Swan in the Twilight movies at the age of 17 that thrust her into the worldwide spotlight.

She played the role of Swan, the mortal girl who falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, in all five of the Twilight movies.

And though she's moved on from the supernatural on screen, she added that she is still 'sensitive' to that kind of thing, and will sometimes 'talk to ghosts'.

“I talk to [ghosts],” she went on. “If I'm in a weird, small town, making a movie, and I'm in a strange apartment, I will literally be like, 'No, please, I cannot deal. Anyone else, but it cannot be me.'

“Who knows what ghosts are, but there is an energy that I'm really sensitive to. Not just with ghosts, but with people. People stain rooms all the time.”

She's since distances herself from the pop culture phenomenon of the Twilight saga, which brought in over $3.3 billion at the box office, appearing in critically acclaimed movies like Personal Shopper and Certain Women.

“I was finally given a chance to be looked at, not as this thing in this celebrity-obsessed culture that was like, 'Oh, that’s the girl from Twilight',” she added.

Next up, Stewart is starring in Elizabeth Banks' reboot of Charlie's Angels, alongside Aladdin's Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska, Sam Claflin, Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou.

It's due out in the UK on November 29.
