Kristin Cavallari says she left 'Very Cavallari' to keep Jay Cutler divorce private

Kristin Cavallari is opening up about her divorce from former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, as well as why her reality show "Very Cavallari" came to an end.

In an interview with ET published Monday, the reality star got candid about her split from Cutler, revealing that "Very Cavallari" was ended so she wouldn't have to address the divorce on television.

"The decision to end the show was that I didn't want to have to talk about my divorce on camera and have to expose that," she said. "I think that some things should be kept private."

According to Cavallari, 33, she and Cutler, 37, did their best to make their marriage work. The two were married for nearly seven years before announcing their split this spring.

"When you're married and you have kids, you work really damn hard at it, and we worked hard at it, and it just didn't work," she said. "I met Jay when I was 23. I was a kid, but we tried. We tried everything, but, at the end of the day, we weren't happy."

Cavallari added that divorce "was not an easy decision."

"It was something that I truly thought about every single day for over two years, and it was the hardest decision that I have ever made," she continued.

Though Cavallari said she and Cutler did their best to keep their split out of the public eye, cracks in their relationship started to become visible while they were filming "Very Cavallari."

"We did a good job of kind of keeping that private as much as possible," she said. "I think we gave a couple glimpses into it, but nothing to what was really going on."

In April, Cavallari announced on Instagram that she and Cutler were divorcing, writing that they "have nothing but love and respect for one another."

"With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce," she wrote. "This is just the situation of two people growing apart."

In May, Cavallari opened up about her living situation during an Instagram Live session, sharing that she and her three kids have been staying with hairstylist Justin Anderson. She and Cutler share sons Camden, 8, and Jaxon, 6, and daughter, Saylor, 4.

Cavallari also announced in May that she was done with her E! reality show, which ran for three seasons.

"As I start this new chapter in my life, I have decided not to continue with ‘Very Cavallari,'" the reality star shared via Instagram. "I’ve absolutely loved my time filming and am so grateful to E! Entertainment for making this journey possible.

The statement continued, "To the fans: I can’t thank you enough for all your support and for keeping up with me all of these years. I love you guys."

Cavallari, who first gained fame on the mid-2000s MTV series "Laguna Beach," runs jewelry and fashion brand Uncommon James in Nashville, Tennessee.
