Kristin Dozier’s Realtor speaks to the record | Opinion

Unfortunately, I haven’t been paying much attention to Tallahassee politics lately as I now live in Asheville, North Carolina. I was recently visiting friends and family and was stunned to hear of the gross misinformation related to a simple home sale in which I was involved.

I was a Realtor with Mattice and Mattice Real Estate in 2014 when Kristin Dozier asked me to help her find her a home in District 5. I cannot in good conscience allow the distortion of the truth about her home purchase stand without letting you know what really happened as I know Kristin to be a person of integrity with whom I have great respect for.

To set the record straight:

Kristin wanted to purchase a home in District 5, the district that she represented. I showed her several homes that met her criteria. The home at 510 Terrace wasn’t the first house she looked at, nor was it the last, but it ultimately was the house she decided to make an offer on. It had been listed publicly in the MLS for about six months with several price reductions and had been at $199,900 for about a month before I showed the home to Kristin.

I negotiated a contract for $195,000. After going under contract, the home inspection revealed several costly repairs, including roof replacement, the need for a French drain to alleviate water intrusion in the basement, sealing the basement, HVAC repairs, and termite damage. In lieu of repairs, the seller agreed to reduce the price so as not to delay the closing by several months.

The Tallahassee Democrat actually reported all of these facts in a previous article published October 12, 2017. See “County Commissioner Kristin Dozier To Sell Her House She Bought From Developer Burnette”.

I’ve come to understand that the fact that JT Burnette’s name was attached to this property is the fuel for those who want to create false issues – neither Kristin nor I knew who the owner was at the time I showed the house. After closing, Kristin had the deferred maintenance repairs completed as well as making additional improvements to the home. Those improvements, as well as the real estate market in general, increased the value of the property.

When all repairs and upgrades were completed, I visited the house to see what she had done and thought it all looked amazing.

In conclusion, there was nothing at all unusual about Kristin’s purchase. I’ve been a Realtor for 18 years and this was no different than many of my transactions.
