Kristin Pierce has been named co-anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast at WISN-TV (Channel 12), filling the spot vacated when Toya Washington left the station in December.

Pierce joined the Milwaukee ABC affiliate in March 2022 as a weekend evening news anchor. In June, she was promoted to co-anchor of Channel 12's new 4 p.m. weekday newscast with Derrick Rose — a gig she will keep while co-anchoring the 5 p.m. news, the station said in its announcement Tuesday.

At 5 p.m., Pierce joins longtime anchor Patrick Paolantonio and chief meteorologist Mark Baden. Her addition was effective immediately, Channel 12 said.

Before coming to Milwaukee, Pierce had been an anchor and reporter at WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky, and WWL-TV in New Orleans, and was a reporter at WXYZ/WMYD-TV in Detroit.

Washington left Channel 12 as co-anchor of the 5 p.m. news Dec. 23, after 20 years at the station. In a Facebook post following her final newscast at the station, Washington said, quoting Serena Williams: "I’m not retiring … 'I’m evolving away from … '"
