Kroger collard greens sold in 10 states recalled for listeria contamination

Bags of collard greens sold in Kroger grocery stores across 10 states are being voluntarily recalled due to possible contamination with the bacteria listeria.

During routine product testing, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture discovered the possible contamination in 16-ounce bags of Kroger collard greens, supplied by Baker Farms, based in Norma Park, Georgia.

There are no reported cases of consumers becoming ill as a result of consuming the recalled product, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Oct. 20.

Where were the Kroger collard greens sold?

Affected products have been removed from stores. They were previously distributed in:

  • Alabama

  • Arkansas

  • Georgia

  • Kentucky

  • Mississippi

  • South Carolina

  • Tennessee

  • Illinois

  • Indiana

  • Missouri

How to identify an affected product

You can identify if you purchased an affected product based on its code and expiration date. Look for a UPC code of 11110-18171 with a Best By date of 10-16-2023 and production code 110093-387.

What is listeria?

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause severe illness in people with weakened immune systems, such as pregnant people, older people and young children. Symptoms of a listeria infection, also known as listeriosis, include:

  • Muscle aches

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Headache

  • Stiff neck

  • Confusion

  • Loss of balance

  • Convulsions

Symptoms can take as short as a few hours or as long as a few days after eating a contaminated food to develop.
