"Gloss Gum Drop looks to the past, but also ahead at the latest generation of royals who are doing things in a way we haven't seen before," Krylon's Senior Color Designer Rachel Skafidas tells us. "In theory, royal purple is a much deeper of a shade of purple that most are familiar with. Krylon Gloss Gum Drop is lighter in hue and has a fun and youthful quality to it, which modernizes the feeling and use of it."

It rings true to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's modern nuptials, as well as their expected first child. So if you're patiently awaiting the birth of the royal baby (because who isn't?), this color is sure to inspire any regal festivities you have planned to honor the newborn.

Gloss Gum Drop is part of the spray paint brand's Rustic Country palette, one of three color collections new to 2019. This palette features colors like a rich Hunter Green, fresh Catalina Mist, and bright Spring Shower. "While Gloss Gum Drop hails from this particular trend palette, we see small parts of the hue in all three color trend palettes," notes Skafidas. In Urban Workshop, with its bold pops of fearless reds and oranges, the purple shade makes appearances in late '80s and early '90s pattern inspirations.

In the Expressive Color palette (think dreamy blues and greens, mythical purples, dark metallics, and bursts of yellow), Skafidas says: "While it may have roots in the past, we definitely see this as well-rounded color that will move forward in all aspects of design and decor."

Craving to add a coat of Gloss Gum Drop to your DIY projects this year? Skafidas recommends playing with the other colors from the Rustic Country family. "My favorite combination from our forecast would be to pair it with Krylon Matte Sweet Fig and Gloss Ivory. If you're looking for a run and youthful pairing, try Gloss Sun Yellow and Gloss Blue Ocean Breeze."

And with the palette taking inspiration from Mother Nature, it's a great go-to tint for any botanical-inspired crafts from painting planters to stenciling vases. Want to bring a little bit of calm into your bedroom or living room? Skafidas also says it's perfect for dressing up a lamp or painting picture frames for a little pop of color—and much needed zen—in your space.
