A 28-year-old man has been arrested after three people and two dogs were found dead in a home in Vine Grove, Kentucky State Police said.

Tyler Wehmeyer of Vine Grove was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the case and taken to the Breckinridge County Detention Center. He was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of tampering with physical evidence and two counts of second-degree cruelty to animals.

Officials with the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office found three people dead in a home located on High Plains Road in Vine Grove while doing a welfare check at 10:22 p.m. Wednesday night and contacted Kentucky State Police to assist with the investigation.

Two women were found dead inside the home – 77-year-old Audrey Whealan and 51-year-old Michelle Whealan – along with 58-year-old Doss Smothers, whose body was found on the property outside the residence. All of them had fatal injuries due to blunt force trauma. Officers also found two dogs dead, the KSP release said.

Wehmeyer was arrested at the residence. His arrest citation said he admitted to killing both dogs and all three people found on the property. He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
