Kansas senior Hunter Dickinson attained a significant milestone in the Jayhawks’ 83-54 victory over Oklahoma State on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

The 7-foot-2, 260-pound senior from Alexandria, Virginia, who played at Michigan three seasons before transferring to KU, scored the 2,000th point of his career.

His 16 points versus the Cowboys pushed his total to 393 points at KU and 2,010 points overall.

He is just the third active player with 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. The others: Armando Bacot of North Carolina, and and Zach Edey of Purdue.

“Hunter scored 2,000 points already?” KU coach Bill Self said during his postgame news conference after the Jayhawks’ 17th victory against four losses; OSU fell to 9-12, 1-7.

“So he’s scored 2,000 points in less than four years. Technically he’s got another year left. He could score 2,600, 2,700 points. I’m glad you told me that,” Self added, speaking to a media member.

Then, he smiled.

“That’s something I’ll sell to him when the season is over (in discussing a return to college for a super-senior campaign),” Self said. “Technically going into it he’d go down as the second leading scorer that’s ever put on a Kansas uniform if in effect he’d come back next year. I’ve got something to sell.”

Danny Manning is KU’s all-time leading scorer with 2,951 points registered from 1985-88. Nick Collison is second with 2,097 (2000-03) and Raef LaFrentz third with 2,066 (1995-98).

Oklahoma State’s John Michael-Wright also passed the 2,000-point mark Tuesday. He scored 16 points after entering the game with 1,990. The senior guard scored the first 1,498 points in three seasons at High Point.

Also, Nick Timberlake, who had seven points versus the Cowboys, passed the 1,600 mark in career points.

Dickinson recorded his Big 12-leading 12th double-double of the season with 11 rebounds to go with his 16 points in 28 minutes. All five KU starters scored in double-figures despite senior Kevin McCullar (bone bruise) being absent from the lineup.
