KU basketball will soon get visits from three elite 2024 prospects. Here’s the latest.

Liam McNeeley, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound senior small forward from Montverde (Florida) Academy and the Florida Rebels AAU program will make an official men’s basketball recruiting visit to Kansas Friday through Sunday, he confirmed to The Star on Monday in a direct message on Twitter.

McNeeley, who has a final six list of KU, Texas, Indiana, Oklahoma, Alabama and Michigan, will also visit Indiana on Sept. 8-10 and Texas on Sept. 22-24 according to Rivals.com and ESPN.com.

McNeeley, a native of Richardson, Texas, is ranked No. 9 in the recruiting class of 2024 by Rivals.com and 247Sports.com and No. 11 by ESPN.com. Earlier in the recruiting process he also considered Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa and others.

He will be in Lawrence on a busy recruiting weekend for the Jayhawks.

Rivals.com and 247Sports.com have reported that McNeeley’s Montverde teammate, Derik Queen, will also be in Lawrence over the weekend on an official recruiting visit.

Queen, a 6-10, 245-pound senior forward from Montverde, is ranked No. 7 in the class of 2024 by 247Sports.com, No.10 by ESPN.com and No. 21 by Rivals.com.

Queen also is being recruited by Maryland, Houston, Indiana, Auburn, Arizona and others. The Baltimore native was named MaxPreps Junior All-America honorable mention after averaging 11.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists his junior campaign. He hit 61% of his shots.

Several recruiting analysts believe Maryland is the leader.

Also visiting KU over the weekend will be highly touted combo guard Jalil Bethea, a 6-4, 175-pound senior from Archbishop Wood Catholic in Warminster, Pennsylvania.

Bethea is ranked No. 9 in the class of 2024 by ESPN.com, No. 17 by Rivals.com and No. 20 by 247Sports.com. He has a final five of KU, Alabama, Villanova, Miami and Syracuse. He also received offers from UCLA, Rutgers, Pitt, Penn State, Georgetown, Maryland, LSU, and others. Bethea averaged 18.7 points and shot 36.8% percent from 3 at the prestigious Peach Jam AAU event.

Indiana is said to be the early favorite to land McNeeley, a high school teammate of No. 1-rated Cooper Flagg, a 6-8, 195-pound small forward originally from Freeport, Maine. Flagg’s mom recently said her son was in the process of setting up visits to KU, Duke and UConn.

Asked what he’s looking for in a college, McNeeley told thedailyhoosier.com: “An NBA style that’s going to show my NBA ability to the scouts and eventually get me to the league.”

Of KU, he told On3.com: “I talk with coach Roberts (Norm, KU assistant) all the time. He sends me texts once every day or two days, so we keep in regular touch.”

McNeeley averaged 13.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals a game for Montverde last season.

Rob Cassidy of Rivals.com wrote that “McNeeley’s recruitment has long felt like a Texas-vs-Indiana tilt and it continues to have that feel he heads into the final stretch The Hoosiers seem to have built a slight lead during the period of uncertainty in Austin, but that gap may be closing. For now, IU still feels like the team to beat, however, but nothing is even close to set in stone when it comes to the five-star’s college decision.”

Of Queen, Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports.com wrote: “Queen is a skilled big man who owns excellent touch around the rim and out to the 3-point line. His best asset is his fantastic hands. It all shows in the way shoots it, grabs rebounds, and passes the basketball. Queen has a terrific feel for the game.”

And of Bethea, Archbishop Wood coach John Mosco told Zagsblog.com: “Jalil is an efficient three-level scorer who plays well in a team or one-on-one concept. He can score in bunches. He has been working on defense and being a complete player. One of his underlying strengths is his passing and getting everyone involved.”

KU has received a commitment so far from one player in the class of 2024. Flory Bidunga, a 6-9, 220-pound senior center from Kokomo (Indiana), recently chose KU over Duke, Auburn and Michigan.

Originally from Congo, Bidunga is ranked No. 4 in the class of 2024 by ESPN.com, No. 5 by Rivals.com and 247Sports.com.
