KU basketball vs. Oklahoma recap: Jayhawks win Big 12 Conference matchup 78-55

NORMAN, Oklahoma — Kansas men’s basketball’s 2022-23 regular season continued Saturday with a Big 12 Conference game on the road against Oklahoma.

The No. 8 Jayhawks came in after a win at home against No. 6 Texas. The Sooners came in after a loss on the road against No. 12 Baylor. Earlier this season, Kansas won a matchup against Oklahoma in Lawrence.

Was coach Bill Self’s Jayhawks squad able to come away with another Big 12 win on the road? Was coach Porter Moser’s Sooners squad able to protect home court? A win would keep Kansas in contention for a Big 12 regular season title.

Here's what happened inside the Lloyd Noble Center:

FINAL: Kansas 78, Oklahoma 55

Kansas leads 69-43 against Oklahoma with 3:59 left in 2nd half

Oklahoma is on a scoring drought that's lasted more than three minutes, and the game's getting closer and closer to another Kansas victory in Norman. The Jayhawks are on a 12-1 run. They aren't showing any signs of letting up on the Sooners.

Jalen Wilson has an impressive line of 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals tonight. He's one of four Jayhawks in double figures scoring. He's back in form after a lackluster performance offensively earlier in the week.

Kansas leads 65-42 against Oklahoma with 8:27 left in 2nd half

Kansas is on an 8-0 run, and Oklahoma fans are already starting to leave to arena in droves. The Jayhawks are up more than 20 points with about eight and a half minutes left in regulation. It doesn't look like the Sooners have the energy or level of play to make this deficit up.

Jalen Wilson is up to 15 points for Kansas. He's 3-for-4 from behind the arc. And he's also got five rebounds and five assists.

Kansas leads 50-38 against Oklahoma with 11:39 left in 2nd half

The Jayhawks have weathered some different Sooners runs, and lead by 12 points with less than 12 minutes left in regulation. Kansas hasn't been lighting it up from behind the arc today, but haven't needed to. Oklahoma isn't hitting many 3s either.

Points off of turnovers is a big statistic right now. Kansas has 18 points off of 16 Oklahoma turnovers. Oklahoma has eight points off of 11 Kansas turnovers.

Kansas leads 42-36 against Oklahoma with 15:25 left in 2nd half

The Sooners certainly aren't going anywhere, at least not yet. Oklahoma is winning the second half so far, and at one point Kansas called a timeout to try to better handle the loss of momentum. But the Jayhawks are still up six points with about 15 and a half minutes left in regulation.

Dajuan Harris Jr. leads Kansas and all scorers with 14 points. The Jayhawks are undefeated this season when he reaches double figures scoring. They are undefeated in Harris' career when he reaches double figures.

HALFTIME: Kansas 35, Oklahoma 22

Kansas leads 25-20 against Oklahoma with 3:27 left in 1st half

The Jayhawks are on a 6-0 run, and lead by five points with a little less than three and a half minutes left until halftime. The Sooners haven't scored in more than two minutes. It's the reverse, basically, of how this game got started.

Jalen Wilson has scored a couple baskets recently. After not scoring for a while to start this game, he's up to four points and has played really well in recent minutes. That's a good sign for Kansas moving forward.

Oklahoma leads 16-13 against Kansas with 7:48 left in 1st half

Jalen Wilson still hasn't scored for Kansas yet in this one. He's 0-for-4 from the field and 0-for-1 from behind the arc, with no trips to the free-throw line. And that's going to be a problem for the Jayhawks if others aren't going to step up around him like they did against Texas.

Dajuan Harris Jr. leads the Jayhawks with five points. Grant Sherfield leads the Sooners with five points. And both teams are still struggling to do much offensively.

Oklahoma leads 10-4 against Kansas with 11:46 left in 1st half

Kansas hasn't scored in three and a half minutes, but Oklahoma hasn't been able to do much offensively either so the game is only separated by six points. The teams have combined for nine turnovers so far, and just six made shots from the field. The Jayhawks are shooting 14.3% from the field, while the Sooners are shooting 33.3% from the field.

Bill Self has gone to Joseph Yesufu off the bench early for a spark, but hasn't gotten much of anything from him. Maybe, if MJ Rice is healthy enough, we'll see Rice in the game soon as well. Committing to getting Gradey Dick going might be the answer, as he hasn't even attempted a 3-pointer yet.

Oklahoma leads 8-4 against Kansas with 14:34 left in 1st half

The Jayhawks have looked pretty rough here, early. They're sluggish offensively, with Kevin McCullar Jr. recently missing as wide open of a 3-point attempt as one can conceivably have. They're allowing too many open shots defensively.

But Kansas does only trail by four points with about 14 and a half minutes left in the first half.

Something to watch, is KJ Adams Jr. already has two fouls for the Jayhawks. That's meant Ernest Udeh Jr. is playing some early first half minutes for Kansas. The Jayhawks are at their best with Adams on the floor.

Check out Kansas in warmups

Will Kansas have more than eight scholarship players available?

While Kyle Cuffe Jr. and Zach Clemence are each in street clothes, both Zuby Ejiofor and Cam Martin are going through warmups a little more than an hour before tip-off. And even Bobby Pettiford Jr. is warming up as well.

None of those five were available for Kansas earlier in the week when it played Texas.
