Some KU fans worry about lack of parking in stadium renovation; school mulling options
Tuesday was a big day for Kansas football fans.
The University of Kansas and KU Athletics shared renderings that promise a “transformed David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium to open in August 2025.”
For the most part, Jayhawks fans absolutely loved what they saw in the renderings of the football stadium and a video, which was narrated by alum Kevin Harlan.
But there was one concern that seemed to pop up among fans. It had to do with parking spaces around the stadium. Would there be enough of it for tailgating?
The school addressed that potential issue.
KU chancellor Douglas Girod said that parking won’t change too much in the first phase of redevelopment. He added that Kansas is looking at two or three different ideas and that “stacked parking” could be an option.
Here is what fans were saying on X (née Twitter) regarding their concerns about the lack of parking after KU released the renderings of the upgrades coming to the football stadium.
So parking is completely gone??

Looks like the tailgating lot is gone… so much for pre game festivities…

Cool, but where do people park

Fair. I just would love a big parking lot to pregame in

I like it and think it looks great
Only concerns I have are:
-Parking/tailgating
-the non-football stuff that takes away from it being a serious stadium— Lawrence Kansas football RULES! ️ (@Brewenor) August 15, 2023
Parking is relevant for tailgating and fan participation and should be included

Gameday parking is a notorious problem in Lawrence; how is this gonna be addressed with even more stuff being added to the area to attract crowds?

Initial thoughts..
1. Looks sweet
2. How does one get to it or park? Already a crowded area

I like it. Looks like a soccer stadium. Reduces parking by a million. 0 places to tailgate. But looks good. https://t.co/ievFMzwZdG
