Four years, 5,000 tons of asphalt, $2.5 million and many headaches later, the gap in Kungle Road has been filled.

With little fanfare and a simple Facebook post composed of a single short sentence and three photos, the City of Norton announced that crews reopened the road as of 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Traffic can once again travel down the road for the first time since 2019.

The end is near: Fix for Kungle canyon, a thorn in Norton's side for 4 years, nearly done

This announcement comes roughly three weeks after the Akron Beacon Journal reported the project was nearly finished.

To span the "Kungle Canyon," a collapsed part of the road, the city installed 11-by-6 culverts.

The next phase, the $676,000 resurfacing of Eastern Road, will begin next year.
