Godzilla spin-off series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has released its first trailer, taking back into the MonsterVerse for more city-destroying carnage.

Set between films in the Western take on the giant Japanese beasties, the series will deal with the massive changes to society once the existence of kaiju become public knowledge. It also deals with the mysterious organisation Monarch and how they are connected to everything, with a battle emerging because those who wish to expose certain secrets to the world, and those who wish to keep them buried.

Kurt Russell plays Army officer Lee Shaw, who is at the centre of all the drama, with his real-life son Wyatt Russell playing a younger Shaw in a fun casting twist.

There's also The Flash actress Kiersey Clemons and Mare of Easttown's Joe Tippett in the cast, while John Roodman reprises his Bill Randa from Kong: Skull Island, with Workaholics actor Anders Holm playing the younger Randa.

WandaVision's Matt Shakman has directed the first two episodes in addition to serving an executive producer, alongside Chris Black (Severance, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye).

The next film in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is set to follow on from Godzilla vs Kong and land in cinemas in April next year

Meanwhile, fans of Japanese production company Toho's never-ending series of monster movies are already eating well, with the trailer for Godzilla Minus One dropping just a couple of days ago.

The film will be set in post-World War II Japan, focusing on how the war devastated the Japanese economy and its society... that is, until a giant radioactive lizard starts stomping around.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will be 10 episodes long, and will premiere on Apple TV+ on November 17.
