Kutztown University women's soccer team wins NCAA Division II opener

Nov. 12—Kayla Argen had a goal and two assists to lead the No. 7 Kutztown University women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over No. 2 Frostburg State in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament Friday at Penn State Behrend in Erie.

Isabelli Rossetti and Becca Delp also scored for the Golden Bears (10-5-4), who earned their first NCAA Tournament win since the 2016 national quarterfinals and first postseason win since the 2017 PSAC Tournament.

Kutztown will play No. 3 Gannon, a 3-0 winner over No. 6 Fairmont State Friday, on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Gannon for a berth in the Sweet 16.

Rosetti gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when she headed in a cross from Argen.

Argen gave KU a 2-0 lead over Frostburg State (18-2-2) just before halftime off an assist from Caroline McDonald.

It became 3-0 in the 61st minute when Argen sent a corner kick into the box and Delp toed the ball across the line.

Emme Wolfel made four saves for the Golden Bears in registering her seventh shutout of the season.

Field hockey

Gladieux helps Penn State win: Oley Valley grad Sophia Gladieux scored two goals to help No. 6 Penn State defeat No. 12 Louisville 5-0 Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Nittany Lions (16-3) will face Albany (16-4) in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ann Arbor.

Gladieux, a junior, scored Penn State's second goal and fourth goal. The Nittany Lions led 2-0 after a quarter and 4-0 at the half against Louisville (12-8).
