Kutztown wins, Albright and Alvernia fall in Berks college football

Oct. 23—Kutztown University running back Darryl Davis-McNeil scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Golden Bears to a 35-7 victory over Lock Haven Saturday at Andre Reed Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East football game .

Davis-McNeil scored his first score on a 4-yard rushing touchdown to complete a 9-play, 63-yard drive and give Kutztown a 14-0 lead after one quarter. Jordan Davis opened the scoring for the Golden Bears (4-1, 6-2) earlier in the first when he scored a 5-yard rushing touchdown.

With 5:22 remaining in the first half, Davis-McNeil scored a 2-yard rushing touchdown for his second of the day.

Quarterback Donny Blaine also scored a 2-yard rushing touchdown to finish a 9-play 42-yard drive with 36 seconds left before halftime to give the Golden Bears a 28-0 lead.

Davis-McNeil picked up right where he left off at the start of the third quarter by scoring a 10-yard rushing touchdown to cap off the scoring for Kutztown.

The Bald Eagles (0-5, 1-7) did not score their first touchdown until the fourth quarter when Matt Stanton scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown to end a 13-play, 82-yard drive.

Kutztown recorded 382 yards of total offense (289 rushing, 93 passing) and limited Lock Haven to 144 yards of total offense (131 passing, 13 rushing).

For the Golden Bears, Davis-McNeil ran 15 times and recorded a game-high 147 rushing yards, Blaine went 8-of-15 passing for 90 yards and rushed for 18 yards and wide receiver Jerome Kapp had four receptions and a team-high 65 receiving yards.

Nigel Wilson and Brandon Hile each forced a fumble for Kutztown.

Elsewhere, Albright football fell short of a second half comeback victory as Widener University defeated the Lions 34-28 in a MAC Commonwealth game at Widener.

After trailing 27-14 early in the fourth, Isaiah Shockley rushed to the right side for a 39-yard touchdown to bring Albright within a touchdown with a little over eight minutes to go. Jeff Chaplin ran a 2-yard touchdown in for the Pride with a little over two minutes left to give Widener a two-touchdown lead once again.

Albright did not give up, however, and Alex Gardsy scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown to bring the Lions (0-5, 0-7) once again within a touchdown with about 30 seconds to go. Gardsy also opened the scoring for Albright when he scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter and threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Antwan Rogers Jr. just before halftime.

The Pride (1-4, 2-5) recovered the ensuing onside kick before running out the clock and winning the game.

For Albright, Gardsy had 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns and also went 12-of-22 passing with one touchdown, one interception and 106 passing yards.

Shockley had a team-high 117 rushing yards. Rogers Jr. had a team-high 27 receiving yards, two catches and one touchdown.

The Lions outgained the Pride 242 to 104 on the ground, while Widener outgained Albright 195 to 102 through the air.

Ryan Rapp had an interception for the Lions.

At Williamsport, Alvernia fell to Lycoming 42-10 in a MAC Commonwealth game.

Lycoming led 21-3 at the half and the Golden Wolves did not score their first touchdown until Kyle Stanton caught an 18-yard pass from Monte McMorris with 14 minutes left in the game.

Brett Conrad made a 39-yard field goal with 6:46 left in the first half for Alvernia. The Warriors (2-3, 3-4) recorded 323 total yards (166 rushing, 157 passing) while the Golden Wolves (1-4, 2-5) recorded 190 total yards of offense (136 passing and 54 rushing).

For Alvernia, Monte McMorris went 17-of-32 passing for 136 yards and threw one touchdown, four interceptions and had a team-high 22 rushing yards. Stanton caught two passes for forty yards and a touchdown. Jamel Fleming forced a fumble for Alvernia.
