Kwik Trip to change fuel payment options, requiring guests to pre-pay or pay at the pump, starting Jan. 3

LA CROSSE – Kwik Trip is changing how customers pay for fuel, requiring them to either pre-pay or pay at the pump, the company announced Tuesday.

With this change, which goes into effect at all locations Jan. 3, people filling their gas tanks will no longer be able to fill up and then go inside to pay.

The change is being made in an effort to improve customer service, Kwik Trip spokesperson Dave Niemi said.

"When our co-workers spend so much time watching the fuel islands for drive-offs, they can't really focus on guest service in the stores," Niemi said.

Guests will still be able to use cash or checks to pre-pay inside before fueling their vehicle's gas tank, with the ability to get a refund after filling up, Niemi said. Gift cards offer another alternative to debit or credit cards, he said, allowing guests to pay for the exact price of their fuel without a hold placed on their account.

Side diesel fuel islands are excluded from this change and will still have a pay inside option.

Headquartered in La Crosse, Kwik Trip has more than 700 locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, according to its website.
