AUSTIN (KXAN) — KXAN announces the departure of Chief Meteorologist David Yeomans, who has been with us for 12 years. His last day on-air will be Wednesday.

David has made a lasting impact on our newsroom, and we are incredibly proud of all he’s accomplished in Austin.

David, who is a longtime Austinite, was first introduced to KXAN as a weather intern under former Chief Meteorologist Jim Spencer.

Since then, he’s been awarded multiple Lone Star Emmys, provided first-hand, live coverage of Hurricane Harvey and investigated illegally built dams in the Hill Country. David took over the chief meteorologist role in 2021 after Jim announced his “semi-retirement.”

“While I’ll miss Lake Austin, the Greenbelt and lots of other things about this city, I am really excited for a new challenge and continued growth,” David said, in part, on social media as he thanked viewers. You can read his full message online now.

We’re excited to see David tackle a new challenge in a place with very different weather. We’ll let him share what that is when the time is right. You can follow his journey on his Facebook and Instagram pages.

Temporarily, viewers will see a familiar face filling in on our evening newscasts — Jim Spencer.
