Kyiv City Council renames People's Friendship Arch, says mayor
The mayor said that the deputies had approved a list of more than 40 monuments and memorials to be removed from the streets and buildings of the capital city and transferred to the Museum of Totalitarianism.

"As for renaming, this is a highly publicized topic," Klitschko said.
"We've heard the thoughts and wishes of Kyiv residents, we've also heard the criticism."
The mayor added that the authorities were involving specialists from institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of National Remembrance, and other institutions to complete the renaming process so as not to make hasty decisions.
"Today we have a request from the Ukrainian society to remove names related to Russia from the map of Kyiv," he said.

"However, the new names must live for tens or even hundreds of years. Therefore, the process of renaming should be fast, but reasonable."
Klitschko added that the Kyiv City Council had extended the rating vote on renaming the capital's sites until June 19. The voting will take place in the Kyiv Digital mobile app.
