He stressed that the Russian forces could not reach the plant even when they were just five kilometers away in Dmytrivka.

Nova Kakhovka dam breach — what is known
During the night of June 6, Russian forces that have occupied the town of Nova Kakhovka for over a year, blew up the dam, flooding downstream cities and towns along the Dnipro River, including the reginal capital of Kherson, Ukrainian authorities say.
The evacuation of citizens on the west bank of the Dnipro River has been ongoing throughout the night. A humanitarian disaster is underway on the Russian-occupied east bank, which has seen far more devastation due to its lower elevation.
At an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered the evacuation of at-risk areas and the provision of drinking water to towns and villages served by the affected Kakhovka Reservoir.
