Kyiv and Washington united ahead of Ukraine’s anticipated counteroffensive, says PM Shmyhal
The Ukrainian prime minister refused to comment on whether he had discussed the leak of classified information about the upcoming counteroffensive of the Ukrainian military with his American partners.
"We are crucially united and absolutely united with Americans and other international partners in preparation of our counteroffensive and we are sure that we will win this war," the Ukrainian official said.
“We will liberate our territories.”
Ukraine and the United States are united in such issues as training soldiers, supplying ammunition, and weapons supply, including long-range missiles, he said.
Shmyhal refused to say whether he had discussed the leak of classified documents in meetings with officials in Washington, and whether any of his American partners had apologized for the leak of classified information regarding the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the upcoming Ukrainian counteroffensive.
During the meeting, Shmyhal discussed "many very important strategic issues” with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
"We discussed many very important questions and challenges and issues with all officials with whom we have meetings during [these] three days," the Ukrainian PM stated.
The New York Times reported on April 6 that classified U.S. military documents from one month earlier were being circulated on social media, allegedly containing operational reports and assessments of the Ukrainianarmy's capabilities, and U.S. and NATO plans to prepare Ukraine's defenders for a counteroffensive.
The Ukrainian intelligence service stated that the documents were a forged and a psyop of the Russian special services. According to NYT sources, the documents with data on Ukrainian and Russian losses could have been falsified.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called the documents "a mixture of truth and lies."
Subsequently, a new batch of U.S. "secret documents" was found on social media, allegedly describing U.S. national security principles related to Russia's war against Ukraine, China, and the Middle East. The number of documents leaked ranges from 50 to several hundred, and resemble summaries used for reports to senior management.
The FBI on April 13 arrested a suspect in the publication of classified U.S. files in North Dighton, Massachusetts — 21-year-old US Air National Guardserviceman Jack Teixeira.
